Heat Transfer and Vinyl Techniques

Fig. 01 — Plastisol Heat Transfer

Plastisol Heat Transfer

Pre-printed transfer paper applied to the garment using a heat press. Produces a result virtually identical to direct screen printing — useful when printing on a fully assembled garment where screens cannot access the print area.

Fig. 02 — Metallic and Foil Transfer

Metallic and Foil Transfer

Gold, silver and custom metallic foil applied to the garment surface using heat and pressure. Crisp, reflective metallic finish on any colour garment. Popular for premium fashion, festival and event apparel.

Fig. 03 — Flock Transfer

Flock Transfer

Velvet-like fibres applied to a heat-activated adhesive to create a soft, raised texture. Popular for streetwear logos and text where a premium tactile finish is desired without the cost of embroidery.

Fig. 04 — Reflective Transfer

Reflective Transfer

Retroreflective material applied by heat press for high-visibility applications. Popular for running apparel, safety workwear and night-event clothing.

FAQ

Heat Transfer & Vinyl, answered.

How durable is heat transfer compared to screen printing?

High-quality heat transfer is extremely durable when applied correctly and cared for properly. Plastisol heat transfers are comparable in wash durability to direct screen printing. Vinyl and metallic transfers may show edge lifting after many washes — proper wash instructions reduce this significantly.

Can heat transfer and screen printing be combined on the same garment?

Yes. A combination of direct screen printing and heat transfer elements on the same garment is a popular approach for adding specialty finishes to a standard screen print design. Both are applied in the same decoration run.
