A tech pack is the single most important document in apparel manufacturing. It is the blueprint from which your manufacturer produces your garment — and a poorly written tech pack is the root cause of most production problems. What Is a Tech Pack?
A tech pack (technical package) is a document that communicates everything a manufacturer needs to produce your garment exactly as you intend. It replaces verbal descriptions and assumptions with precise specifications — measurements, construction details, material requirements, trim specifications, label placement and quality standards.
A complete tech pack eliminates guesswork from the manufacturing process. Every decision about your garment — how the collar is finished, where the label sits, how wide the hem allowance is — is documented in the tech pack, not left for your manufacturer to decide.
What a Tech Pack Must Include
Technical Flat Sketches
Front and back technical drawings of your garment showing all seams, pockets, labels, zippers and construction details. Technical sketches are different from fashion illustrations — they show construction details, not aesthetic rendering.
Measurement Chart (Spec Sheet)
Exact measurements for every critical dimension of the garment across all sizes in your size run. Chest width, body length, sleeve length, neck width, armhole depth — every dimension that affects fit is specified with a tolerance (e.g. plus or minus 1 cm).
Construction Notes
Seam type, stitch density, hem treatment, pocket construction, zipper type, collar finish and any other construction detail that affects how the garment is sewn.
Material Specifications
Fabric composition, weight (GSM), colour (Pantone reference), supplier or fabric type, and finish requirements. Also covers all trims — zippers, buttons, labels, drawstrings, rivets.
Label and Branding Placement
Exact placement of main label, neck label, care label, size label and any other branding element. Measurements from seam references.
Grading Rules
How measurements change from one size to the next. If you require a custom grade, specify the increment for each size step.

What software do people use to create tech packs?
